Darnestown Rendering Acquires Regal Cinema Property
Realty Income Corporation has announced the sale of the 7-acre property at 20000 Century Blvd in Germantown, formerly Regal Cinema, to Darnestown Rendering for an undisclosed sum. Founded in 1923, Darnestown Rendering repurposes and recycles materials from the animal agriculture and food industries.
The 58,782-square-foot building in Germantown will house Darnestown Rendering's biomass collection center and fats and proteins processing facility. Fats and proteins are used in the production of animal feed, pet food, cosmetics, renewable fuels and more.
Since its start as a small Maryland rendering company more than 101 years ago, Darnestown Rendering has always chased new ways to source raw materials, most recently opening its home euthanasia, cadaver removal, and crime scene cleanup divisions. The Germantown facility is expected to bring more than 200 jobs to the area.
Big Top Loses Bidding War
Germantown residents who were hoping another theater would replace Regal Cinema were disappointed to learn Big Top Entertainment of Baltimore lost the bidding war for 20000 Century Blvd.
Big Top's plans included eight theaters showing a mix of gay and straight adult movies, a 50-booth private video arcade, and a 5,000 square-foot lingerie and novelty shop.
"We are disappointed Big Top won't be coming on the down low to Germantown but hope to see them filling another hole in the area soon," said county executive Mark Elrich.
