Rover Discovers Lost Civilization at White Flint Basin
NASA's Perseverance Rover has unearthed evidence of a lost civilization from White Flint's I Magnin Basin. The samples include glowing ancient symbols, a cache of mysterious coins, and an iron forged disc with a clasp. They have been sealed in tubes for future lab analysis, NASA said in a tweet.
Scientists believe the lost civilization dates from the late Pookshillozoic era. Very little is known about this period other than what is written in MoCo Show nostalgia posts during slow holiday news cycles.
The Perseverance Rover is gathering samples to help scientists learn about White Flint's geological history, past climate, and potential for future life.
Perseverance has travelled over 20 acres since landing in February 2021. It recently finished exploring White Flint's Via Rialto Crater, a location where scientists say water once flowed and geysers made fountains in marble and limestone pools.
The rover's samples are collected using a coring drill and stored in repurposed Chevy Chase Bank drive-thru tubes. If analysis shows conditions are favorable, a mixed-use colony will be established on White Flint by 2045.
