Backyard Bamboo Debuts in Brookeville and Takoma Park

Backyard Bamboo, the Mid-Atlantic's largest bamboo nursery, has announced the opening of its first two Montgomery County locations this week in Brookeville and Takoma Park.

The Brookeville store occupies 5 High Street, the former home of the Brookeville Academy. The Takoma Park location, "Sligo Backyard Bamboo," is housed in a recently renovated carriage house and garden at 205 Tulip Avenue. With these newest additions, the company now operates 15 locations across Southern and Central Maryland.

"Bamboo is a versatile plant that can be added to any environment," Backyard Bamboo said in a press release. "Some species can grow over 75 feet in height, with growth rates of almost four feet a day."

The family-owned and -operated nursery focuses solely on bamboo production. Recognized as one of North America's top bamboo producers due to its proprietary propagating and growing techniques, Backyard Bamboo cultivates over 150 species of bamboo on its 60-acre waterfront nursery in St. Mary's County, Maryland.

As part of Backyard Bamboo's ongoing commitment to sustainability and the environment, the company will contribute one plant to Montgomery County's bamboo reforestation program for each plant sold.
