Sign Vandalized at Glenmont Center, Reward Offered

Investigators with the Wheaton Sheriff's Department are asking the public for help identifying the vandal who destroyed a commercial sign in Glenmont.

Sometime during the evening of September 24, someone ripped the "coming soon" sign for the Glenmont Galleria out of the ground, destroying it's metal poles and soiling the sign.

The sign in front of the Glenmont Shopping Center, at the corner of Georgia Avenue and Layhill Road, was attached to heavy six-foot poles. The vandal bent the poles at ground level, leaving the vinyl sign in puddle of mud underneath.

Damage to the sign posts is estimated at $14.68, according to insurance adjustors

If you witnessed the sign being vandalized or have information about the perpetrator, you are asked to contact the Wheaton Sheriff's Office at 631-960-7169.

A $5,000 cash reward is being offered by the property developer, Martin & Wurst, for information leading to the arrest and execution of the vandal.

"We won't be deterred by thuggery. Glenmont deserves nice things too, and our plans will advance unabated," said developer Morty Martin.
