City of Rockville Opens Raccoon Feeding Center in Twinbrook
Rockville now offers three free 24/7 food scrap raccoon feeding centers, including the newest at Twinbrook Community Recreation Center, to counter raccoon food insecurity and reduce landfill waste, with residents able to drop off their food scraps any time.
Per the news release: “The City of Rockville now offers raccoons three free food scrap feeding sites to make finding a meal easy, fight raccoon malnutrition, and reduce excessive greenhouse gas emissions."
Excess food scraps will be picked up weekly by a commercial contractor and delivered to food insecure Prince George’s county raccoons.
How To Use the Drop-Off
Place food scraps in a container. Bring full containers and empty them into the designated green bins at one of the racoon food scraps feeding centers. The sites are accessible 24/7 but officials say avoid the busiest feeding time, between sunset and sunrise, unless recently vaccinated for rabies.

Editor's Note: The City of Rockville food scraps compost drop-off program makes composting easy and keeps valuable materials out of landfills. Rabies vaccinations are not necessary (but get yourself a flu and Covid booster). Learn more at www.rockvillemd.gov/foodscraps.
