Dunkin’ Announces New Stores, Olney Theater Licensing Deal

“Olney runs on Dunkin’!” proclaimed franchise owner Ollie Olenfeld on Thursday, at a press conference with officials from Dunkin' Donuts LLC where the locations of three new Montgomery County Dunkin’ stores were revealed. Flanked by Olney Chamber of Commerce members, Fred Kruhler, Dunkin’ President, also announced a 30-year licensing deal with the Olney Theater that will see it renamed the Dunkin’ Theater next month.

The new stores will be located at 17831 Georgia Avenue, in the former Capital One Bank building; 18100 Georgia Avenue, formerly the Taco Bar; and, 2000 Olney Sandy Spring Road, formerly the Olney Ale House.

“With the addition of these locations, we have established a firm foothold in all four quadrants of the greater Olney community,” said Olenfeld, referring to the four sections of Olney dissected by the intersection of Rt. 108 and Georgia Avenue.

All three new locations will utilize Dunkin’s proprietary Double-Sided Drive-Through Design, also known as the DD DDD.  Engineered for buildings at corner intersections, the DD DDD enables stores to have drive-through entrances and exits on both streets. The existing Dunkin’ in the Olney Village Center will also be renovated for a DD DDD this year, with entrances and exits planned for Olney Sandy Spring Road and Village Center Drive.

The two new downtown Olney stores are expected to open by summer 2023. The Dunkin’ slated for the Olney Ale House location will open in early 2024. A demolition permit has been filed for the existing structure on the site. Once completed, that store will become the exclusive catering outlet for Dunkin’ Theater.

Asked what’s next, Olenfeld remarked, “We are currently scouting sites in Brookeville, Sandy Spring and Aston, with a goal for nine more openings in 2024.”
