M&W Break Ground on The Gables of South Aspen Hill
Martin & Wurst, Maryland’s fastest growing builder of single-family home communities, has officially broken ground on its newest MoCo community, The Gables of South Aspen Hill. Located in the former White Flint Mall and park location, the community will grand open in Spring 2024.
“We are so excited to develop this highly anticipated community,” said Morton Martin, president of M&W’s Maryland division. “The Gables of South Aspen Hill will offer a world-class experience for active families, with resort-style indoor and outdoor amenities to enjoy.”
M&W burst onto the scene during the pandemic with new communities offering homes more affordable than those in surrounding, older enclaves. “By naming our communities after iconic albeit less desirable neighborhoods, we’ve been able to reduce home prices twenty-five percent of the county median,” Martin said.
A total of 211 single family homes will be available, 43 of which will face Lake South Aspen Hill, a 4-acre man-made body of water and the centerpiece of what will become South Aspen Hill Park, according to recently updated site plans. Prices start in the low 400s.
The new community’s name has drawn some ire about how reputations and property values will be affected. “When I went to that mall, I never saw any flint but sure saw plenty of white. What does that kind of reputation do to property values here in Aspen Hill, one of the most culturally diverse areas in the country?” asked Nora Johnson, executive director of the Aspen Hill Preservation Society, the day before her termination.
Other M&W communities in Montgomery County include The Preserve at North Chillum and South Gaithersburg Estates.
