Introducing: The Montgonion Crossword

The Montgonion is thrilled to introduce a new feature for fans who love a good brain stretch, know about their county, and need an excuse to procrastinate: The Montgonion Crossword.

A few times each month, we’ll publish a brand-new crossword puzzle centered on a rotating Montgomery County theme — from hyper-local geography to political trivia, from school mascots to municipal misadventures. If it happens within Route 28 and the ICC, it’s fair game.

This Week’s Theme: MCPS School Names

Our inaugural puzzle focuses on the sometimes noble, sometimes inexplicably named schools that make up Montgomery County Public Schools. Each answer is the name of an MCPS school, but we’ve made the clues just cryptic enough to keep you on your toes — let us know how we did!

How to Play

The puzzle below is interactive, playable right on the page. Use the arrow icon at the top of the puzzle to expand. On mobile or desktop, just tap a square and start typing. If you get stuck, click the question mark for the solution (eventually — no cheating).

Think you know your Arcolas from your Bannockburns? Your Luxmanors from your Laytonsvilles? It’s time to prove it.
