New Welcome Signs Installed in North MoCo Communities
New “Welcome to" signs in communities along the Connecticut Avenue corridor in central Montgomery County have been installed after the neighborhoods suffered irreparable damage to their self-esteem from years of exposure to more prosperous areas slightly closer to Washington, DC.
The Connecticut Avenue Psychiatric Association obtained a grant from the Montgomery County Association of Realtors to fund the signs, with costs estimated around $14,000 each. The new signs were successfully installed last week.
The new signs bear a resemblance to the Welcome to North Potomac sign installed decades ago to ease the fears of new Toll Brothers homes purchasers about being perceived as having bought in Gaithersburg.
MCAR shares the following information on its website: “Our Connecticut Avenue corridor community includes 225,000 residents who wish they lived 10 minutes to the south in a 1000 square foot smaller home that costs $100,000 more. From the peripheral fringes of Kensington, Wheaton, Glenmont and Aspen Hill, we take ownership of our community envy and gain solace from pretending we live on the northern edge of our southernmost neighborhoods."
