Montgomery BOE Appoints Paul Blart as Chief of Security
The Montgomery County Board of Education today unanimously approved the appointment of Paul Blart as Chief of Security for Montgomery County Public Schools.
Blart retired as Head of Security at West Orange Mall in Essex County, New Jersey last month. He is an eight-time applicant to the New Jersey State Police and passed the written test every time. He joined West Orange Mall Security in 2001 and held key leadership positions during his 24-year career in mall enforcement.
Blart's appointment comes on the heels of MCPS requesting 52 additional campus security guards to handle the increase in gun scares, fights after football games, students found drunk in school bathrooms, and carjackings since it removed the School Resource Officer program during the Coronavirus Pandemic.
“Paul Blart brings demonstrated leadership, commitment to public safety, and extensive rent-a-cop management experience to the role of MCPS Chief of Security," said Councilmember Andrew Friedson. “His appointment is an important step towards enhancing the security of our school district and integrating our new campus guards. Paul has a keen eye for character in security trainees, providing the mentorship necessary to learn complex building security systems and take control of their operation."
A press conference held at Bethesda Chevy Chase High School to introduce the new chief was paused briefly when Blart, who is hypoglycemic, slumped at the podium. He resumed answering questions thirty minutes later, after an aide ran off campus to find a vending machine with sugary beverages.
"If you remember one thing from today, it's this: the mind is the only weapon that doesn't need a holster," Blart told reporters after regaining his faculties.
Chief Blart will begin his new position with MCPS on April 1st.
