Police ID Suspect in Brookside Gardens Fruit Theft

Park Police say they have identified a suspect who allegedly stole fruit and injured trees at Brookside Gardens in Glenmont. The facility reported via its Facebook page Tuesday that fruits were ripped off the papaya and cacao trees.

The Facebook post, which spawned more than 50 comments and nearly 650 reactions of frustration, said, "they’re just tearing them right off the bark and that’s destroying the tissue and leaves it wounded with those big gashes in the tree.”

A Parks Police spokesperson said an all-points bulletin has been released and officers are actively searching for the perpetrator. "Our officers have experience in these matters, and an arrest is eminent."
