Sideshow Disappoints MoCo Fairgoers
One of the most popular attractions at the Montgomery County Agricultural Fair each summer, the Human Sideshow, is disappointing locals this year, who say it no longer lives up to the hype.
"We see bigger at the Germantown Walmart every day of the week. What a rip-off," said store greeter Bruce Snowdon, who paid $15 each for he and his girlfriend to see the ‘World's Fattest Family’ in what was known as the ‘Freak Show’ in less politically correct times.
Another staple of the human oddity showcase, the bearded lady, left audiences equally unimpressed. "Casey in HR has a beard that long. Only difference is you get sent to sensitivity training for mentioning it," fairgoer Annie Jones quipped.
The most obvious subterfuge at this year's sideshow, The Most Tattooed Man, is really tattoo artist Nate Smith from Tattoo Paradise in Wheaton. "My wife Megan has more tattoos from the waist down than that dude," attendee George Inky said.
Fair organizers say midway exhibitors are independent contractors and they have little control over the attractions. That explanation left fairgoers demanding refunds unsatisfied.
"We should have just stayed home and watched reruns of Too Large and Ink Master on TLC," Snowdon remarked.
