Ficker Campaign Gets $3.5 Million from Golden Super PAC
Financial woes at the Robin Ficker for U.S. Senate Campaign are a thing of the past, thanks to a $3.5 million dollar donation from Burtonsville-based Super PAC Make East Montgomery Golden Again. Ficker, the perineal Republican candidate running his 22nd political campaign, is facing a tough primary against well-funded former Maryland Governor Larry Hogan.
The normally reclusive MEMGA PAC founder, Dave Golden, sat down for an exclusive interview with The Montgonion to talk about MEMGA, the donation and the race for Maryland's U.S. Senate seat.
Montgonion: Tell us about MEMGA. When was it formed and what does it stand for?
Golden: MEMGA is an organization working to advance the "East Montgomery First" agenda. We united a diverse coalition to fight together against radical North Potomac's extreme positions and agenda ahead of the 2024 Senate election. Led by East Montgomery First Works, a 501c4 that's closely aligned with the East Montgomery First Policy Institute, the coalition was constructed to promote the East Montgomery First agenda through policy and legislation.
Montgonion: What does an East Montgomery First agenda look like?
Golden: It looks like Pike & Rose, with towering condos and over-priced restaurants that close in quick succession. It's new townhouse developments in Spencerville labeled as 'East Bethesda'. It looks like King Farm, where Home Depot and Lowes, Petco and PetSmart, Target and Kohls, share a 27-acre parking lot in harmony. That's what Making East Montgomery Golden Again is all about.
Montgonion: So basically, MEMGA seeks parity with the Montgomery County I-270 corridor?
Golden: No! Not just parity. Dominance! Our mall's retractable dome will be twice as long as Wheaton's, and our indoor ski mountains will be ten times higher than Gaithersburg's. The Galleria at Glenmont will be a slum compared to White Flint-Burtonsville Town Square!
Montgonion: That seems like a lot for East Montgomery. Is there enough land and sufficient population to sustain that growth?
Golden: The East Montgomery First movement isn't just about Montgomery. MEMGA has its sights set on Laurel too. It's rightly ours, and with Ficker in the Senate we will see its annexation to East Burtonsville. MEMGA won't rest until Amigos Mexican Grill takes over the vacant Burger King building in Burtonsville Crossing!
Montgonion: Most pundits say regardless of campaign finances, none of the Republican candidates stand a chance against Hogan. How would MEMGA adapt to a Hogan victory?
Golden: It really all depends on what Hogan does in the Senate. We didn't want to support him as Governor but then look what happened. So, if he beats cancer again or loses a ton of weight or adopts another Chesapeake Retriever, things could change.
Montgonion: Where did MEMGA's $3.5 million dollar donation come from?
Golden: MEMGA contributed $1.8 million leftover from our Kristin Mink Campaign PAC after she creamed Katie Ledecky in the county council race. The rest comes from local businesses. Let's just say the bedding is a lot less lumpy down at Mattress & More Liquidators.
Montgonion: Ficker lives in Boyds, in far western Montgomery County. What makes you think he will support your East Montgomery First agenda?
Golden: MEMGA has more than 300 hours of video showing Ficker entering and exiting Lovecraft Adult Boutique in Laurel.
Montgonion:
Golden: He's our bitch.
