Cannabis Sampling 'Scenter' Debuts in Glenmont
In a first for Maryland's two-year-old recreational cannabis industry, consumers may now perform a smell test before purchasing their marijuana strain du jour.
Can't decide between Lemon Cherry Diesel, Pie Hoe B, or Snoop OG? Stop by the new Glenmont Shopping Scenter in Silver Spring and let your nose do the picking!
Just outside the Story Cannabis dispensary, dozens of olfactory sampling bags, tubes and plastic jars await discerning noses. The empties, left behind by thoughtful cannabis community customers, hold the dank smell of unique terpene profiles that contribute to distinctive aromas and flavors, such as the citrusy scent of limonene or the earthy aroma of myrcene.
"This one is outstanding!" exclaimed Glenmont Forest resident Freddy Stonier, as he peeled a flattened bag of Pineapple Express sativa off the pavement. "Sweet and refreshing, with a complex blend of fruity and earthy terpenes!"
For first time visitors and customers looking for professional advice, helpful cannabis connoisseurs stationed around the Glenmont Shopping Scenter guide olfactory sampling in return for a little spare change or a meaty cigarette butt.
"Kennedy and Glenallan kids who walk to school are welcome to cut through the Scenter," said a spokesperson for MCPD 4th District Station, located across the street. "The Scenter provides an opportunity to educate non-smokers how to identify cannabis odor and controlled substance packaging as well."
The Glenmont Shopping Scenter is open 24/7 and local officials say it will bring the community together. Council member Natali Fani-González announced the first county-sponsored Glenmont event in 20 years, Tastes and Smells of Glenmont, will take place at the Scenter in October.
