Story Cannabis Earns Signage Rights

Each year marquis signage spots at the Glenmont Shopping Center are awarded to the retailers that bring the most foot traffic, and revenue, into the bustling Silver Spring strip mall.

Story Cannabis led Glenmont Center retailers last year in daily visitors, earning the rights to two of the coveted billboards on the sign welcoming visitors near the intersection of Layhill Road and Georgia Avenue.

Not only did Story lead the center in foot traffic, but tax records show it also out grossed all other center retailers combined in 2024. That distinction earned Story both water tower and Arcade signage right as well.

Story Cannabis opened in July 2023, when Maryland opened the door to recreational marijuana sales. It was immediately embraced by Glenmont residents, who were already accustomed to buying their weed in the shopping center parking lot. Story's 4 gram "eighths" and $7 pre-rolls attract customers from as far away as Aspen Hill and Cloverly.

Center retailers say the extra foot traffic is great for business. "Carryout orders are up 400% since they opened," said the owner of Szechuan Palace, located three doors down from Story Cannabis. “Story’s prices are so low their customers still have money for beer and vapes,” a manager from next door retailer Beer-Wine told The Montgonion.
